My BFF

Tonight we were all in the master bedroom lounging on the big pillows and I asked Leah if she was my BFF.  She said "yes" and then turned to her Daddy and told him "I'm Mommy's ABC Daddy!"

Preschool Registration

Thursday night was a big night for little Leah!  We went to open house/registration night at the preschool that we plan on sending Leah to next year.  Once we arrived we were handed a number.....52!  This was the order in which we could register.  Most people must've gotten there super duper early because we weren't even late!  There are 60 spots for the three-year-old classes so, fingers crossed, she will get in!  Some families were there for the four-year-old classes or Kindergarten so we weren't really 52 for just Leah's class.  The director said that by the time school starts in August that they are usually able to find a spot for every family who was there on registration night!  We go back April 28 for Leah's "interview".  This is when we should know for sure if she has a spot!

Luke and I both really really liked the program!  She'll go on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9am - 2pm which includes lunch that we bring from home and a little rest time.  When she moves up to the four-year-old program she'll learn Spanish!  I really like this!  The class sizes are really small.....1 teacher and 1 aide for each class of 12!  That's really 1 adult to 6 kids!  This is perfect!

We went a tour of the school and got to see one of each of the classrooms.....threes, fours, Kindergarten and Transitional Kindergarten.  They had little activities set up in each of the rooms for the kids to do while the teachers talked to the parents.  Leah LOVED this and made herself right at home in each of the rooms.  She had lots of fun playing with the other kids.  There were legos on the floor of one of the rooms and Leah ran over and set down next to a little boy who had one of the mats that you put the legos on on his lap.  Leah just started putting legos on his mat and excaimed out loud "I'm helping him Mommy, I'm helping him!"  The little boy was a good sport about it, thank goodness!

I made Luke wear a tie to the occassion.  He hadn't worn one to work that day but had it in his car to change in to.  We wanted to dress to impress, right!  Well, when we walked in most of the dads had ties on!  I bet all the other Mommy's had the same idea I did!  We had told Leah that we were going to visit her new school and that lots of her friends would be there.  Well, when we were in the big (quiet) meeting part of the night Leah asked out loud "Where are my friends, Mommy, where are my friends?".  Poor baby didn't recognize any of her (current) friends!  They will all be her friends soon enough, though, hopefully in August!

Leah did really well having to wait too.  She found a dad that I guess she liked that was standing with his back to us.  She would put her body completely against his with her head in his booty and would take off running to her Daddy.  This dad was laughing and acknowledged that he must be her starting line!  Oh my girl!  We suggested a new starting line really quick!

AND I must say a big "thank you" to Luke!  I started feeling extremely sick while we were there so I had to leave.  Luke stayed and turned in all of our paperwork for us when our number finally was called!  He said that the teachers were very impressed with how organized he was and all of the proper copies he had made!  I guess I'll let him take the credit for all of that!

I'm thinking I might have a bit of the flu.  I felt awful Thursday night and wasn't much better on Friday so I stayed home from work.  I NEVER call in sick so this should tell you how awful I felt.  I was running fever off and on all day which was no fun at all!  We're supposed to go on a little vacation this weekend but I'm not sure what we're going to do now.  It all depends on if we can get out of our hotel reservation or not!  I feel tons better today but still not 100%.  I'm sure I'll be back to good tomorrow.

Busy Weekend

This seems to be the title of all of my weekend recaps, but nothing seems to sum them up better!  Our weekend started Saturday morning with a birthday party for Leah's sweet little friend from daycare, Shae.  The party was at an indoor bounce house place and Leah had been looking forward to the party for days!  The party was scheduled with "open bounce" from 9 - 10:30 am and the party itself was from 10:30 to 11:30 am.  Leah still wasn't feeling 100% from the antibiotic outbreak so we decided to play it safe and just go to the party part at 10:30 assuming that this still meant a little bouncing would take place.  Boy were we wrong!  The party portion of the party was in the party room and another party had taken over the bouncy house part.  They (the staff) would NOT let Leah bounce for even one second because of this other party.  Oh my goodness!  By the time we left Leah was in tears and I was in tears.  I felt like the worst mother in all of America because she had been looking forward to this for so long!  I never in my wildest dreams thought that she wouldn't get to bounce!  As we were driving away with Leah and I both in tears, I was frantically searching on my phone for another bounce place that we could take her to.  I found a couple but both were closed to "open jump" on Saturdays because of scheduled parties!  Luke was so desperate that he even threated to just rent out a slot as if we were hosting a party!  As I calmed down, I got a rational thought in my head and asked her if she wanted to go to Chuck E. Cheese.  She decided that this was a good idea (after shooting down Chick-fil-A's playground).  So off to Chuck E. Cheese we went.  Well, not Chuck E. Cheese EXACTLY but John's Incredible Pizza which is way better and way cleaner than it's competition.  I know I've told you before about how much I despise Chuck E. Cheese!  Guess what Leah ate for lunch at the pizza place.....an ice cream cone with sprinkles!  I was pulling out all of my aces with this trip!  I just wanted her to have FUN after our sad morning and her rough week with all the itching!  She did have a good time there and got to ride some fun rides (even the twisty roller coaster thing that made me a nervous wreck just watching) and won lots of tickets for prizes so I think it was a success!  She hasn't mentioned the bouncy castle place since!  After the pizza place we rushed home to squeeze in a nap (we were all EXHAUSTED) and then I was off to my neighbor Shannon's house for a little girl's night.
This ride made me a nervous wreck!  We first thought that Leah could sit in Luke's lap but this wasn't the case!  She did great, though, and LOVED it!  My little thrill seeker!

Sunday was "clean the house" day before going over to our neighbors Mark and Susan's to grill out.  We didn't make it home until around midnight so I would say we had lots of fun!  Leah had lots of fun playing with all of her friends.

Today was family fun day at Disneyland on Ice (really Disney on Ice but Leah kept calling it Disneyland on Ice so this name stuck).  This was our second time to go this and I really thought this show was the cutest yet!  Each little act was based on a celebration (birthday party, wedding, Halloween, beach vacation and Christmas).  Leah ate an ENTIRE box of popcorn during the show which is now her favorite food!  ($7 popcorn AND a $12 snow cone.....the prices at these places are just way too outrageous!)  Tonight before dinner she wanted to eat popcorn and watch a movie so this is what we did!  Turns out the popcorn WAS her dinner because she was fast asleep as soon as the Benadryl kicked in (she was still itching a little today).  I read somewhere recently that popcorn is a whole grain so this is what I keep telling myself about her gourmet dinner tonight!

We are all in need of a little vacation after the rough two weeks Leah has had (ear infection, double ear infection, pink eye and the Amoxicillin allergy).  We just might have to take one very very very soon!  I'm thinking next weekend!  :)

No More Amoxicillin

Yesterday around noon I got a call at work from Ms. Trish.  She first told me that Leah was having a great day (always good to tell a Mommy the good news first) but that she had broken out in a rash right after eating her breakfast.  Trish and I assessed every possible idea of what it could be that we could think of.  My first thought was eggs but she had only had cereal and milk so this wasn't it!  No new laundry detergent, no bug bites, nothing obvious that we could think of!  Trish offered to put her in an oatmeal bath when the others went down for a nap while I called the doctor.  Leah had already been in to the doctors office twice since last Tuesday (once for her cough which turned out to be an ear infection and once for pink eye which also led to the discovery of the double ear infection).  At this point she was now on two different prescriptions.....Amoxicillin for her ears and Vigamox for the pink eye.

So I called the doctor's office right away and their first hunch was an allergic reaction to the Amoxicillin.  We made an appointment with Dr. Sherman (the first available being 5:00).  Luke was able to make it back from his work appointment and picked her up at Trish's just a little before 4.  They got her right in at the doctors (LOVE our pediatrician.....we have never ever ever had to wait in the waiting room for more than just a couple of minutes, usually we never even have a chance to sit down) and Dr. Sherman knew exactly what it was when he saw her.....an allergic reaction to the Amoxicillin.  She has taken this drug before and has never had a problem but he said this is how it works.  She still has her double ear infection so it wasn't doing its job anyways!  That drug is now in the trash (along with the Vigamox just in case because he said her eyes looked fantastic anyways) and we've started a new, stronger antibiotic (Azithromycin) for her ears.  Dr. Sherman also gave her a dose of Benadryl right away in his office!

The only thing we can do for the rash is to let it run its ugly, itchy course.  We are giving her Benadryl every 6 hours.  This helps the itchiness a LITTLE.  The best thing it's doing is making her relaxed and sleepy so that she's not scratching.  She's asleep right beside me on the couch at this very moment.  Poor baby fell asleep while I was making her pancakes so she hasn't even had breakfast yet (and it's 11:00)!  We gave her a bath with baking soda last night which seemed to help a little with the itchiness. I put Cortizone Cream on her after her bath just as if it were lotion and she screamed bloody murder.  Not really sure why, but the nurse told me today that I should just put it on little spots at a time, not all over the body.  Whoops!  I called the doctor this morning to check in and to let them know that it didn't go away overnight (I guess I thought it should).  In fact, the rash seems to be moving.  Her back looks better but her face is now covered where as last night her back was covered and her face just had a small little patch on the corner of her forehead.  They said this is all normal and we should expect this to stick around for about five days.  I guess it'll take as much time to get out of her body as it took going in.

She could've gone to daycare today (just because she's not contagious) but I just couldn't send her miserable like this from all the itchiness and tired from the Benadryl.  Our only treatment option is the Benadryl every 6 hours and oatmeal or baking soda baths.  They said we could also give her Zyrtec instead of Benadryl since it won't make a drowsy but I think it's best that she's relaxed and resting and not trying to scratch.  Poor, poor baby.  We let her sleep in bed with us last night just so that we could keep an eye on her and make sure that the allergic reaction didn't spread to her throat (it shouldn't but this was just a worrisome Mommy moment for me).  Please go away itchy rash very very soon!

WARNING:  It's as itchy as it looks!!!!!

Happy Valentine's Day!!!

What a fun day we've had!  I was so so happy that Valentine's Day fell on a Monday so that I could be home to celebrate with Leah!  I had the table all decorated before Leah woke up this morning!  She LOVED it!

We started our day with heart shaped chocolate chip pancakes on a Valentine's Day plate!  This was a rather late breakfast as Leah slept in until 9:30 this morning!  If only I could've slept in too!

After breakfast it was time to clean up and get all ready for our Valentine's party playdate!

Leah and I hosted a little Valentine's party playdate for our neighbors.....Braydon, Riley, Jackson, Lyla and Charlie!  I LOVE our neighbors!  We had so much fun!  Lyla brought over stickers so that everyone could color and make Valentines cards.  After that the kids played and played.  Then it was time for lunch.....heart shaped peanut butter and jelly sandwiches, fruit, string cheese and goldfish!

The funnest part of all came after lunch.....we decorated heart shaped cupcakes!  This was a HUGE hit!

After eating our yummy cupcakes it was time for a little Valentine exchange!  So much fun!  I just love these two little families who live beside us!

Susan even brought Valentines for the Mamas.....Mimosas!!!!!

Did you notice the platter Leah and I made a couple of weeks ago at Color Me Mine?

Tonight after Daddy got home it was time for our a little Valentines gift giving!  Leah gave her Daddy a coffee mug that she painted at Color Me Mine.  Funny story.....the moment we arrived home from painting our little projects a couple of weeks ago, Luke greeted us in the garage.  The first words out of Leah's mouth were "It's a secret Daddy.  We painted you a coffee mug."  This was all said in a whisper!  I just played it off like nothing.  Well, tonight when Leah handed her Daddy his gift bag, she said "It's a coffee mug!"  There's no secrets with this one!

Luke and I have a little rule each year.....no gifts and the cards must be handmade!  Luke broke the rule a little this year with a dozen red roses!

Dinner was quick and easy tonight.....lasagna that I made and froze awhile back!  For dessert we had a very special treat.....chocolate covered strawberries that Nana and Papaw sent us!

Finally, after showers it was time for Leah to open her Valentines gifts from Mommy and Daddy!

Happy Valentine's Day from our family to yours!

Pink Eye

Just as I suspected (and feared), Leah has pink eye!

Our day started early at 5 am!  This is one of my busiest weeks of the year at work so me missing work just wasn't an option.  Luke was supposed to give a sales meeting in Santa Rosa at 9 which meant that he had to leave the house 6.  We decided last night that if Leah was in fact sick that Luke would stay home, so at 5 am he snuck into her room with his phone as a flashlight to check out her eyes.  There was some gunk so we knew how our day would go!

We called the doctor's office right at 8 and got her an appointment with Dr. Tansey because Dr. Sherman isn't in the office on Fridays.  I like Dr. Tansey so this was fine (I only say this because there are a couple of doctors in the practice that I DO NOT like!)  Leah has also been running fever since Wednesday night so I wanted her to go to the doctor since it was Friday so that we weren't having to scramble around for a doctor on the weekend!

Luke took her in and, sure enough, she has pink eye in both eyes and now has a double ear infection, one a little worse than the other!  Poor baby!  She is now on eyedrops three times per day for seven days AND continuing with her antibiotic until next Thursday!  Thank goodness she takes her eyedrops like a champ!

On top of all this she has thrown up TWICE today (once after lunch and once after dinner) from coughing so hard!  Poor baby!

So, where in the world did the pink eye come from?  I know that it's super contagious so it had to have come from somewhere!  Well, we called Ms. Trish this morning to tell her that Leah wasn't going to be there because we thought that she had pink eye and Ms. Trish told us that her daughter (who's in high school) came home from a slumber party last weekend with it and was home from school on Monday and Tuesday.  Ms. Trish said that they were so careful to clean everything and that they kept Emily quarantined but it still got to Leah.  I just think that since she was already not feeling the best with her cough and ear infection (that we didn't know about at the time) that her immune system was more susceptible than the others!  I never would have dreamed that she would have gotten this from a teenager, I thought that it certainly came from another toddler!  Nope!

10 on 10: February 2011

Ten on Ten: 10 pictures on the 10th day of the month!
{Document a day of your life & find beauty among the ordinary things in your day!}

This is another fun little idea I got from one of my favorite blogs!  The idea is to take a photo every hour for ten consecutive hours on the tenth day of each month.  I think this is such a fun idea so I'm giving it a whirl!

We had to start our day with Valentine sprinkles in our Rice Krispies!

I've had to work extra days this week, so the laundry situation has gotten a little (or alot) out of control!  Today was my day to tackle it!  Fun stuff!  Just in case I've never told you before, folding and putting away laundry is one of my least favorite things to do!

Both of our kitchen faucets have been dripping for as long as I can remember.  I'm so tired of having to keep a sponge under the handle to catch drips so we finally called a plumber!  He was here for no more than five minutes to give me my two options:  $199 to replace the cartridge (whatever that is) in each faucet (so $199 x 2) or $149 x 2 to install a new faucet (after we purchase the new faucet).  Maybe I'll just live with my sponge under the handle for a bit longer!

Leah made a Valentine card for her Daddy!

I'm bound and determined to start reading through and cooking out of my 500+ cookbooks.  This is the one I chose today!

Lunch time!  Leah's still not feeling 100% so she didn't eat a whole lot but I thought it was pretty good!

We watched a little "Peppa Pig" before naptime!  A nap was required today because Leah didn't sleep the greatest.  She woke up twice tossing and turning and crying and with fever.  She ended up in our bed and was finally able to get a decent night's sleep with the help of a little Tylenol!

Leah's dinner.....peanut butter and jelly!  I made it to her exact specifications with the peanut butter on one side and jelly on the other!  They weren't allowed to touch!

Luke and I's dinner with mine animal style!
We haven't had this in forever so it was so good!

Just doing a little pre-bedtime reading.....on PINKEYE!  I'm afraid Leah is showing all the symptoms.  We'll be able to tell for sure in the morning!  Please no!!!!!
