First Day of First Grade

And just like that my baby girl is a first grader!  We're seven days in and so far so good!  She absolutely LOVES school.....her teacher, her friends, having her own little desk!  Going to school from 8:15 until 2:35 has been a bit of an adjustment (as opposed to her half-day Kindergarten class last year that went from 11:14 - 2:48)!  My night owl has been so tired each afternoon that getting her to bed by 8:30 pm hasn't been a problem at all!  I look forward to her making lots of memories this year!

A "science inspector"!

This was Leah's desk for the first 6 days of school!  As of day 7 her desk was moved to another group because she and the little girl sitting beside her (in the picture) were talking a bit too much!  She was DEVASTATED when I talked to her about it so hopefully she'll keep her chattering to lunch and the playground!  Another little funny from the week.....when we were standing outside of her classroom one afternoon this week, a little girl was pointing to Leah telling her mom "that girl's a hugger right there"!  Yes she is!!!  I sure do love my chatter box hugger!!!!!  :)

Leah's 6th Birthday Party

We celebrated Leah's 6th birthday at Color Me Mine!  She loved every minute of it!

She REALLY wanted a Frozen themed painting party!  I probably should have been an awesome mom and just went with it.  My Pinterest planning mind just doesn't quite think that eclectic!  I showed her lots of "art" themed invitations on Etsy and she got really excited about the ones with paint pallets!  Whoo!  She chose the one she liked best (we didn't agree, but hey, at least I got her off of the Frozen idea AND I guess EVERYTHING doesn't have to be cute and chevron-ish), and we ordered them right up!  I had her cake made to match the invites!  She chose a strawberry flavored cake!  It was yummy!  I don't have a picture, but we also served her favorite Baskin-Robbins ice creams.....Pink Bubblegum and America's Birthday Cake!  That actually got a little crazy.....Luke was just outside the party room scooping out the ice cream before we did cake.  All it took was one kid grabbing a spoon and a cup of ice cream and before I knew what was going on, all the kids were gobbling up ice cream before we had even sang Happy Birthday or blew out any candle!  It worked out fine in the end, but mama was a little panicked at that very moment!

The party was from 2:30 - 4:30 so we kept it simple with just colored Goldfish and colored popcorn from our favorite popcorn store here in town!  Both were a hit!  Favors were sugar cookies made by the same bakery that did her cake!  I had them made to look like they were paint splattered!  They couldn't have been cuter (or yummier)!  Watercolor paints were favors as well!

The birthday girl painted a mermaid!  I'm still searching for the PERFECT spot to put it!

Lane LOVED Sissy's party!  He also LOVED having sword fights with the paintbrushes!  Thank goodness nothing was broken in his presence!  I'm still on the hunt for the PERFECT place for his puppy!

The kids each got to pick out whatever they wanted to paint!  So fun!

Little Sissy (as Lane calls her) just hung out in her carseat for at least half of the party! Best baby ever!!!

My baby's getting to be one of the big boys!

"Happy Birthday dear Leah....."

I LOVED how they had Leah open her presents!  One of the party hostesses had Leah sit at the front and as each present was opened she had that guest come and sit with Leah! This was a genius idea!  Opening presents at a party is usually my very LEAST favorite part because it is always, without a doubt, mass chaos with everyone wanting to help and climb over each other to see!  This kept it so calm and actually enjoyable, and Leah was actually able to thank and hug each guest right away!  I will definitely use this little idea again!

 How CUTE are these brothers!!!!!

Thanking everyone for coming to her birthday party!  Now all that's left to do is pick up the pottery and deliver the masterpieces!
