Saturday morning we loaded up the car to drive the 30 minutes to Folsom to hunt Easter eggs with Zoe and Hudson. We couldn't wait! Lane was looking super handsome in one of his Easter outfits! Goodness gracious, I'm having so much fun dressing a boy!
And this is what he looked like when we pulled into the parking lot for the big egg hunt about 45 minutes later.

You see, we had a little mishap on the drive there. The back way to Folsom is a bit curvy and hilly. Lane was just talking away as happy as could be when all of a sudden, we went down a hill and up came his breakfast all. over. his. handsome. Easter. outfit. And being the awesome Mother of the Year that I am, I had NOT packed a change of clothes for the little fella. We quickly stripped Lane down, put him back into the puke infested carseat and told Leah that we were very sorry but we were going to have to turn around and go home and miss the Easter egg hunt. Cue the tears. Bless her heart, this really wasn't fair to her so we decided to carry on. We were running a bit late by this point, but Luke said we'd make it because he would be able to drop Leah and I off right at the gate. He would just keep Lane in the car and drive around until after the egg hunt (it doesn't last long at all). So we get there and Leah and I leave the boys (one of them wearing nothing but a diaper) to go hunt eggs! We had arrived with hardly any time to spare at all. In fact, we walked right past the Easter Bunny on our way to Leah's designated field, and Leah wanted her picture taken with him (or her) but I told her we didn't have any time at all for that right now.
So the girls and Hudson are hunting for eggs when I get this picture text from Luke.....

I was a bit confused. I knew that was Lane. I knew that was his Tom laying there and I knew that was his Easter basket that he was supposed to be hunting eggs with. But when? I just couldn't figure out when Luke might have taken Lane and his Easter basket on an outing and why at that moment was he sending me this random picture. I also couldn't figure out what in the world Lane was wearing. The whole picture just left me confused, but I couldn't worry about it right then because I needed to get back to my girl who was hunting eggs like a mad woman on the 3-4 year old field with Zoe and Hudson. All the eggs were hunted in less than 2 minutes (if even that long) and Jason, Lindsay and I were sitting there with the three kiddos when out of nowhere walks Luke and Lane, Lane wearing the strange outfit from the picture Luke had texted me. Lane was walking by himself and was grinning from ear to ear as if to say "Hi guys, I made it, I'm ready to hunt some eggs."

So here's what happened in the ten minutes since Luke had dropped Leah and I off. He said there was no way he was going to let his boy miss an Easter egg hunt so he put the car in drive and went in search of a kid's clothing store. He was sure there would be one in the shopping center across the street from the egg hunt. WRONG! So he kept driving and found a Wal-Mart just down the street. He parked, whisked the naked boy from his car seat, literally ran into the store, grabbed a shirt (a printed t-shirt that I would have NEVER bought, especially not for an occasion where family pictures would be involved) and a pair of shorts from the baby section (both too big, he obviously didn't have time to check the sizes), sped through the self checkout, started dressing Lane as he ran back to the car, threw Lane back in the carseat, drove back down to the egg hunt, parked illegally, ran into the park as the countdown for the egg hunt began "10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1", ran onto the field for the 'Under 2's' and let Lane hunt for some of the few remaining eggs at that point (they don't last long). Can you say Daddy of the Year?!?!
And bless Lane's little heart, he hunted eggs with his Wal-Mart tags dangling from his clothes. Daddy didn't have a single second to spare to remove those! And you know what, my happy little guy didn't even care!

So Easter 2013 will forever be remembered as the year Lane hunted Easter eggs in his brand new "I Dig Mommy" shirt and his ghetto shorts that hung down to his ankles. But it will also be a reminder to me of how awesome his Daddy truly is!
